Gettng Open When Denied. If your defender is in a denial position with a foot and hand in the passing lane between you and the ball, you should use your outside hand (the hand away from the defender) for a target). Take your defender away, then cut to the elbow. Show the passer a target with your outside hand. On the pass, meet the ball, catching it with two hands. Use a one-two stop, landing at the elbow with your inside foot (the foot closest to the middle) landing first. Make a front turn to the middle to see the rim and your defender. Make an aggressive drive step and show the ball high. Be a triple threat to shoot, pass, or drive. Be a threat to shoot first. Make sure you read the position of your defender before making a move.

Shot Fake Jump Shot. After catching the ball at the pinch post, you want to be a triple threat and a threat to shoot first. See the rim and your defender. If you are closely guarded and your defender’s hand is up, you should make a drive step, keeping your weight on your pivot foot. Make an aggressive shot fake to make your defender react by straightening his legs. This will enable you to jump higher than your defender and get your shot off over your defender’s reach. After the fake, move the ball to shooting position with your shooting hand behind the ball and facing the front of the rim. Shoot a jump shot. Follow through until the ball reaches the net. Land in balance.  If you shot was taken from within the lane be ready to rebound the ball. If you shot was taken from outside the lane be ready to get back on defense.
