Drive Middle Jump Shot and Counter Move Reverse Down Lane Hook Shot

Drive Middle from Wing Jump Shot

The drill is performed by shooting a jump shot off a drive to the middle from the wing on each side. First drive from the offensive left wing to the middle and shoot a jump shot, and then drive from the offensive right wing and shoot a jump shot.

Start on the offensive left side with your back to the basket and toss the ball so it bounces at the left wing at the imaginary foul line extended. Catch the ball with two hands and make a one-two stop with the inside (left) foot landing first. Pivot to the middle and see the rim. Make a drive step with your outside (right) foot. Drive middle with your outside hand (away from your imaginary defender). Create space by pushing your first dribble out. Use at least two dribbles. Square to the basket by jumping behind the ball or pivoting on your inside (left) foot. Pick the ball up in front of the shooting side knee with the shooting hand on top of the ball and your non-shooting (balance) hand under the ball. When your shooting hand is on top of the ball your shooting hand will face the rim when you raise the ball to shoot. By picking the ball up at the shooting side knee, you are able to change sideward momentum to upward momentum and jump straight up to shoot a jump shot, rather than floating to the side A left-handed player driving to the right will have further to go when jumping behind the ball in order to pick up the ball in front of the shooting side knee. If you are a lefty, dribbling from the offensive right wing to the middle, it is better to use a crossover dribble to the shooting side knee on the last dribble,

Next, start on the offensive right side with your back to the basket and toss the ball so it bounces at the right wing at the imaginary foul line extended. Catch the ball with two hands and make a one-two stop with the inside (right) foot landing first. Pivot to the middle and see the rim. Make a drive step with your outside (left) foot. Drive middle with your outside hand (away from your imaginary defender). Create space by pushing your first dribble out. Use at least two dribbles. Square to the basket by jumping behind the ball or by pivoting on your inside (right) foot. Pick the ball up in front of your shooting side knee with your shooting hand on top of the ball and your non-shooting (balance) hand under the ball. A right-handed player driving to the left will have further to go when jumping behind the ball in order to pick up the ball in front of the shooting side knee. If you are a righty, dribbling from the offensive left wing to the middle, it is better to use a crossover dribble to the shooting side knee on the last dribble.

Drive Middle from Wing Counter Move Reverse Down Lane Hook Shot

The drill is performed by reverse dribbling at the elbow driving down the lane and shooting a hook shot from a spot above the block on each side of the lane. First reverse dribble at the offensive left elbow, drive down the lane and shoot a left hand hook shot. Next reverse dribble at the offensive right elbow, drive down the lane and shoot a right hand hook shot.
Start on the offensive left block and toss the ball to the wing. Catch the ball and land with a one-two stop landing on your inside foot first. Turn to the middle and see the rim. Drive to the offensive left elbow with your outside (away from defender) hand. At the elbow imagine that your defender is playing you to the middle and reverse dribble, pivoting on your inside foot. Keep the ball in the same hand as you pull the ball close to your body on your reverse dribble. Dribble down the lane to a spot above the block, and shoot a left hand hook shot.
As you start your hook shot, dip your takeoff knee to change forward momentum to upward momentum. Pick the ball up at your shooting knee with your shooting hand under and your non-shooting hand slightly behind and on top of the ball. Lift your shooting side knee, pivot toward the basket, and lift the ball to the basket with an ear-to-ear motion of your arm. Aim for a spot on the top near corner of the box on the backboard. Keep your non-shooting hand on the ball until the release. Jump and land in the same spot. Follow your shot for a possible rebound. Catch the ball with two hands after a made or missed shot. On a missed shot, catch the ball high with two hands, fake and score with a power move. Develop the attitude that “A hook is a pass to myself.”

Next, start on the offensive right block and toss the ball to the right wing. Catch the ball and land with a one-two stop landing on your inside foot first. Turn to the middle and see the rim. Drive to the offensive right elbow with your outside (away from defender) hand. At the elbow imagine that your defender is playing you to the middle and reverse dribble, pivoting on your inside foot. Keep the ball in the same hand as you pull the ball close to your body on your reverse dribble. Dribble down the lane to a spot above the right block and shoot a right hand hook shot.
