Drive Baseline Jump Shot
By Hal Wissel

The drill is performed by shooting a jump shot off a drive baseline from the wing on each side. First drive from the offensive left wing to the baseline and shoot a jump shot, and then drive from the offensive right wing to the baseline and shoot a jump shot.

Start on the offensive left side with your back to the basket and toss the ball so it bounces at the left wing at the imaginary foul line extended. Catch the ball with two hands and make a one-two stop with the inside (left) foot landing first. Pivot to the middle and see the rim. Make a drive step with your outside (right) foot. Imagine that your defender’s outside hand (the hand closest to the baseline) is up. Make an aggressive shot fake. Make a crossover step and drive baseline with your outside hand (away from your imaginary defender). Create space by pushing your first dribble out. Use at least two dribbles. Square to the basket by jumping behind the ball or pivoting on your inside (right) foot. A right-handed player driving to the left will have further to go when jumping behind the ball in order to pick up the ball in front of the shooting side knee. If you are a right handed player, dribbling from the offensive left wing toward the baseline, it is better to use a crossover dribble to the shooting side knee on the last dribble, Pick the ball up in front of the shooting side knee with the shooting hand on top of the ball and your non-shooting (balance) hand under the ball. When your shooting hand is on top of the ball your shooting hand will face the rim when you raise the ball to shoot. By picking the ball up at the shooting side knee, you are able to change side momentum to upward momentum and jump straight up to shoot a jump shot, rather than floating to the side.

Next, start on the offensive right side with your back to the basket and toss the ball so it bounces at the right wing at the imaginary foul line extended.
