30 Second Workout Drill: Speed Dribble Drop-Step, Fake Hook, Spin-Back Hook

30 Second Workout Drill: Speed Dribble Drop-Step, Fake Hook, Spin-Back Hook
By Hal Wissel

After making a drop-step to the middle and you anticipate a defender trying to block your hook shot you can fake a hook shot, and counter with a spin-back hook shot. This challenging drill combines the use of speed and reverse dribbles, one-two stops, hook shot fakes, and spin-back hook shots. The drill consists of alternately driving from each elbow (the intersection of the foul line and lane line) making one-two stops, fake hooks, drop-steps, spin backs, and hook shots when dribbling right and dribbling left.
Start at the right elbow in a balanced stance with your left foot forward and your right foot back. Drive to the basket using a speed dribble with your outside (right) hand and make a one-two stop landing on your inside (left) foot first. Make a hook shot fake, then drop-step to the middle with you outside (right) foot, fake a left hand hook shot, then spin-back for a hook shot. Catch the ball with two hands and speed dribble out to the left elbow, using your outside (right) hand. Place your inside (left) foot on the elbow and reverse dribble, pulling the ball back toward the basket with your outside (right) hand.

Continue the drill for 30 seconds, alternately driving and making one-two stops and drop-steps to the middle fake hook shots, and spin-back hook shots on each side of the basket.
Record the number of spin-back hook shots you make in 30 seconds. A good score is five spin-back hook shots in 30 seconds. At the completion of the drill shoot two free throws.
